The Man who is Building a Brain - Steve Furber

MEET THE MAN WHO IS BUILDING A BRAIN

Professor Steve Furber

feature-the-man-who-is-building-a-brain.jpg

“For a full-scale computer model of the human brain, we’d be looking at a machine that would need to be housed in an aircraft hangar and consume tens of megawatts,” Professor Steve Furber, ICL Professor of Computer Engineering.

There are times in life when people have to really understand the magnitude of what someone is doing, On the outside it may seem really simple to build a brain, with the vastness of our technology available, building a brain can be very straight forward right. I mean 50 years ago we were putting astronauts on the moon.

But this task is something much more larger, the workings on the human brain are so delicate that it is natures ultimate form of creation, even the slightest damage can completely hamper your life. It is the source of control, in understanding language, creating music, listening and dissecting information, controlling the whole workings of the body.

So how can mankind compete with millions of years of evolution design, well it takes the mind of a really smart man called Professor Steve Furber and of course we use the best computer we can build and throw tons of money at the project.

(From the Manchester.ac website) The newly formed million-processor-core ‘Spiking Neural Network Architecture’ or ‘SpiNNaker’ machine is capable of completing more than 200 million million actions per second, with each of its chips having 100 million transistors.

The SpiNNaker machine, which was designed and built in The University of Manchester’s School of Computer Science, can model more biological neurons in real time than any other machine on the planet.

Biological neurons are basic brain cells present in the nervous system that communicate primarily by emitting ‘spikes’ of pure electro-chemical energy. Neuromorphic computing uses large scale computer systems containing electronic circuits to mimic these spikes in a machine.

SpiNNaker is unique because, unlike traditional computers, it doesn’t communicate by sending large amounts of information from point A to B via a standard network. Instead it mimics the massively parallel communication architecture of the brain, sending billions of small amounts of information simultaneously to thousands of different destinations.

The true essence of building a brain, isn’t just to awaken consciousness but its to create a whole new form of understanding in the brain. There is a saying that they can take man to the moon, the top of a mountain, bottom of the see but never to the depths of the mind. Well ladies and gentlemen today maybe that day.

“Artificial intelligence would be the ultimate version of Google. The ultimate search engine that would understand everything on the web. It would understand exactly what you wanted, and it would give you the right thing. We're nowhere near doing that now. However, we can get incrementally closer to that, and that is basically what we work on.”Larry Page

Panspermia, Aliens, Evolution & Origin of Life - Milton Wainwright

DOWNLOAD OR STREAM ABOVE

The survival of some of these building blocks – can they be delivered to the Earth that would help seed a planet so the conditions of life can begin to exist?  (Earth & Panspermia & Life)  Peter H Schultz.

Every year thousands of tons of material from outer space reigns down on our planet’s surface.  Most of the time we’re unaware.  But sometimes it can’t be ignored.  Around the world people have reported finding strange matter where these meteors fall.  Sometimes it’s a gelatinous goo.  Other times it looks like it’s raining blood.

The question of where we come from and where we are going is something that has many of the worlds greatest minds for the eternity of time, even if your just sitting around a camp site with your friends, you are bound to stare at the stars and for that brief moment ask where do I come from?

This weeks guest has asked that question, He has asked the question long enough, to find a deep and powerful realisation of how man came to Earth. That theory is Panspermia, which is greek for seed. is the hypothesis that life exists throughout the universe, distributed by space dust, meteoroids, comets, planetoids and also by spacecraft carrying unintended contamination by microorganisms. Distrubition may have occurred between galaxies, and so may not be restricted to the limited scale of solar systems.

Panspermia hypotheses propose (for example) that microscopic life-forms that can survive the effects of space can become trapped in debris ejected into space after collisions between planets and small solar system bodies that harbor life.

So thankfully, we have a guest today who has pushed the boundaries of the institutionalised thinking. someone who has being degraded by his peers, but has always pushed the thought provoking ideas of Panspermia.

That great man ladies and gentlemen is Milton Wainwright and prepare to dive deep in one of the most powerful, thought provoking episodes we have ever done.

Simulation Theory, Deja Vu, Artificial Intelligence, Out Of Body Experience - Physicist Tom Campbell

DOWNLOAD, STREAM, SHARE OR SIMPLY MAKE LOVE TO IT.

"That a million smart people say "yes" is not a good reason for you to say "yes" if you do not have the experience and understanding to support it. Determining truth is not a democratic process ruled by the majority. It is also not something that someone else can do for you. Do not let these smart people sway you to agree with them simply because they are smart." TOM CAMPBELL

This episode is one that really struck home, Tom was one of our biggest guests in the beginning of the podcast, he was so awaken, his knowledge on Death was so profound because I couldn’t happen to find an answer to my many mysteries surrounding it. And ever since Toms answer in the last episode I haven’t really searched for any other answer.

Unfortunately our gorgeous, superstar on the mic Chris (I wonder who’s writing this?) wasn’t able to attend this episode, but save your prayers because he is back next week. So this is a straight up interview, 1 on 1 style with Dan taking the lead.

We were so lucky to find Tom, in-fact it was just by chance that Dan happened to of being stumbling on his website and noticed with in the next few days the Tom Campbell was arriving on our shores and more specifically at the beautiful Lumley Castle, which is only a stones through away, in the beautiful historic city of Durham we live.

WE at that time had both decided to go away, for a few weeks Dan in Italy and me to the Lakes, Dan informed me that Tom was willing to come on, and thankfully we managed to get this powerful, deep and thought provoking episode.

This episode is one Dan doesn’t stop talking about so make sure you listen deeply and find the wisdom and the knowledge that will transform your life.

Tom Campbell began researching altered states of consciousness with Bob Monroe (Journeys Out Of The BodyFar Journeys, and The Ultimate Journey) at Monroe Laboratories in the early 1970s where he and a few others were instrumental in getting Monroe’s laboratory for the study of consciousness up and running. These early drug-free consciousness pioneers helped design experiments, developed the technology for creating specific altered states, and were the main subjects of study (guinea pigs) all at the same time. Campbell has been experimenting with, and exploring the subjective and objective mind ever since. For the past thirty years, Campbell has been focused on scientifically exploring the properties, boundaries, and abilities of consciousness.

Government Corruption, Political Assassinations & Consciousness - Observing Our Thoughts #18

DOWNLOAD, STREAM, OR FIGHT THE SYSTEM

“ I Swear to you gentlemen, that to be overly conscious is a sickness, a real, thorough sickness,”
― Fyodor Dostoevsky

When we look at the vastness that is consciousness, we have to take into account all possibilities. These possibilities range from being one collective form of consciousness, to being a basic function of the brain and mind, that we haven’t stumbled across yet.

But A Spanish philosopher called Miguel De Unamuno, who had unfortunately lost his son, ended up becoming obsessed with his thoughts, his thoughts over taken his mind, the excessive thoughts in his mind, were interacting with his body the similar way a disease would. His work would revolve around suffering and would even become comparable to the work of the Buddha,. Through all of his suffering and mental anguish, he came with the startling realisation that “Consciousness was a disease.”

Before that there was Dostoevsky, A Russian novelist famous for Crime And Punishment, who argued the similar argument in the late 1800’s with “Excessive consciousness is a disease.”

We start today’s episode with the look upon, could consciousness be a disease of the mind, or the brain or just something completely separate from these ideals.

The Knowledge on display in this episode is mind blowing, the topics intense and the works mentioned are Fascinating, from the Deep impactful work of some of the greatest philosophers to the exposure of the system all over the world, and the powerful exposure from that of Bob Lazar.

Enjoy, dive deep and uncover an awakening in your own mind.

How is Modern Civilisation Affecting our Evolution - Paul Kirtley - AP147

DOWNLOAD, STREAM, GO OUTSIDE AND LIVE YOUR LIFE

Modern Civilisation affecting our evolution, is massive topic. One that probably could have its own podcast channel devoted to it, and there would still be stuff missed out, but never the less this is an episode that is surely to blow you socks off.

We often get mesmerized by the educational system that the past is not as important as the present and that the present is just a collection of waiting to find out whats around the corner, ever since man has had the ability to think he has being able to ponder his effect on civilisation. Mankind is full of people who live in a state full of bliss and ignorance, lost in a utopia based around themselves and their own sense of being.

This is why the next guest Paul Kirtley is so needed for today’s society. His understanding of life outside of the 4 walls of security, is pivotal in this day and age. We need to understand the value of ourselves and we can only truly know that by exploring the outside world.

Paul Kirtley will today with us show us what it truly means to be an explorer of landscape, being a survivalist and understanding you as an individual. It truly comes a time of the ages when man is needed to be reminded of how to live with Nature. Its mere a case of reminding ones self about the true essence that it is to be a human being.

Outdoor life is no longer a hobby or a pastime for me. It’s a passion I turned into a full-time occupation. I’ve been a full-time professional outdoor skills instructor since 2005. I’m fully invested in a life of developing practical outdoor skills and the knowledge to support this – both developing my own abilities and helping others develop theirs.

My primary focus is bushcraft and I’ve been involved in teaching bushcraft since 2003. I started with a part time job with Ray Mears, assisting him and Juha Rankinen on bushcraft courses at Woodlore. This role turned into a full-time job offer and I worked as Course Director of Woodlore for five years.

SOLO Girl Traveling Alone In VAN - Pam The Van - AP 146

DOWNLOAD, STREAM AND GET IN THE VAN AND LIVE YOUR LIFE.

“Jobs fill your pocket, but adventures fill your soul.” – Jamie Lyn Beatty

We often find that the idea of travel comes at a price much greater than we could ever afford. We believe in ideas that we need to be saving up for our brief time abroad and that it will come as a price  which is earned and is considered a luxury. And even then people will enter these lavish hotels and have all the same home comforts as they have all the time.

There is a difference between travel and going on holiday, travel is there to broaden your soul. To ignite an idea in the mind that you are much small than you are lead to believe, we need reminding of this from time to time. Sometimes it feels like the 9-5 and our own homes are what our worlds look at.

Our guest today is someone who understands that travel is a necessary part of life, the more small minded the views are the more likely you are to get upset with anything that irritates your small bubble of life. Travel calms the soul, opens up the heart and expands the mind.

Our guest today Marina, and her trusty van Pam, show us what adventure and broadening the mind away from the 9 to 5 is like, and ultimately necessary. Marina left her job, a good job, she had a boyfriend, she could of being heading to what society calls an honest and appreciative citizen. She would basically become another cog in the wheel, being the unknown, but thankfully the power of the heart is to strong and will ultimately pulled her into the direction she seeks. So join us in todays episode where we explore Marina’s beautiful mind and find out the truth about Wanderlust.

Blind Man Traveling the World Solo - Tony Giles: AP-145

DOWNLOAD, STREAM, OR GO AND SEE THE WORLD!

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.” Helen Keller

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain

Helen Keller was once asked what is worse than being born blind? Her reply was nothing short of legendary. The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision. . You do not need to use your eyes in order to have vision. This is where most of are at in life, we are limited to what we can and cant do, ultimately sitting on the fence, thinking of excuse after excuse on why we cant do something.

Who we are is nothing to what we could become if we just break down our fears into manageable steps. Tony Giles is a man who could easily just live a quiet life of solitude, he has being given the biggest challenge that any human being can face, being blind and 80% deaf, and still manages to travel the world.

What limitations are you telling yourself, I remember this podcast well, It was a long drive, it was hard to get parked, It was lashing down with rain, We had no clue where Tony lived, we really struggled with a really really long drive, 8 hours had taken us to this point. But by George it was worth it. 30minutes of Tony’s time was the equivalent to a 3 hour speech from Tony Robbins. We were both psyched, the man lights a fire in the hearts of everyone he meets.

A few months later me and Dan were driving to London, to record a few more podcasts, and I asked Dan out of all the guests we’ve had on who has got it all together, and his first reply was Tony Giles. This man knows what the world is, he has seen it, maybe not with the literal sense, but ultimately within his heart, there is no judgement, there is no envy, there is no hatred towards the condition he has. Its like the man is a Buddha which is completely at piece with who he is and what he has done in life, no bridge to far kinda guy.

If only the human race could all truly feel what Tony feels, this world will be a truly even better place.

EPISODE BREAKDOWN

  • How a blind person can travel the world?

  • The moment of truth..

  • Anyone can do any challenge that is presented to them.

  • The challenge of places.

  • The best and Worse Country.

  • Travelling without planning.

Flat Earth Debate (Response) The Nature of Reality, Consciousness & Simulation Theory

WATCH, DOWNLOAD, STREAM, AND GET INVOLVED IF YOU WISH

"What divides us pales in comparison to what unites us." – Ted Kennedy

Wow the response we have had to the flat earth debate has being incredible, its so nice many people checking out the podcast and engaging with others on such a divided topic. The idea of this podcast is not to tell you what to think, we don’t play for either side, we aren’t scientists, nor are we flat earthers. We are just two individuals asking questions on various different topics.

We rarely hold any concrete validation of truth in this reality, we always keep an open mind on many different topics. We do hold firm though that the notion that 2+2=4 we do believe in that, but ultimately you do learn more when you are sitting in a blissful place of non judgement.

The Buddha once was a prince with everything he could imagine, luxury was endless and he was lavished with love from his father, but he hated it. He thought living on the streets and starving and living life as a simple beggar would of being much more rewarding making him feel human. Once again he realized this wasn’t it. He spent the next 49 days under a tree and gathered this peaceful understanding that life itself is to be viewed in a state of awe and fascination, to never live within the ego, to go beyond your own understanding of right and wrong.

When you realize how perfect everything is you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky. The Buddha

DOWNLOAD, STREAM OR JUST ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR CURRENT REALITY

“It is not the answer that enlightens, but the question.” – Eugene Ionesco

We often get caught in our mainstream of our own daily activities, that we often forget what is actually happening outside our egotistical bubble. We lose the understanding of a simple question such as is the Earth flat or round. Is this because we have our utmost faith in science and that it trumps all other dogmas. and that science has provided enough evidence on the subject to deny any proof of any other alternative.

Are we at that point in history where no matter what as long as science is involved we have a utmost truth? Thankfully though we have along with science with have people to question, observe and intervene and generally want to know more. This is similar to the flat earth, many and more people are warming to the idea of flat earth. not just because of the growing evidence to support their claim but the perception of distrust is coming from organisations such as N.A.S.A

Science is and always will be the mainstream go to on any topics. but as long as people are willing enough to voice their opinion then we will always have the wonder of what If. So decide for yourself who you believe is right in this debate with a leading flat earth investigator and a highly educated research and result driven based scientist.

"The whole history of science has been the gradual realization that events do not happen in an arbitrary manner, but that they reflect a certain underlying order, which may or may not be divinely inspired," Stephen Hawking

The greatest quote i heard and one which stuck in my mind for a long time was from the talented science fiction writer Arthur C Clarke which was there is two possibilities that exist out there and that is we are either alone or not alone and both are equally terrifying.

Today’s guest has dived so far deep into the research of extra terrestrials the only way he could find out more information was if he was abducted himself, this is the second episode which we had the pleasure of having Andrew Collins, who’s research on extra terrestrials have given us some of the most powerful information and knowledge on life beyond this planet.

Does it exist, is there enough present information to prove to humanity that we have concrete proof that aliens exist. The question of mankind in the universal and intergalactic galaxy is a small one, even though we have vastness of information and knowledge. We are bound by the physical limitations of the human body and are lost in this ego fueled mind. What we truly are though is to be blessed with the understanding that we are a part of the universe, we are just another structure similar to the stars and each holding there own in this vastness that we call the universe.

Aliens could be the making of humanity or likewise be its destruction, only one thing we can truly do is live in the moment and enjoy the endless wonder of imagination. I will leave you on this quote .”You are the universe expressing itself as human for a short time.”
