AP 104 - I Am Not This Body & Not This Mind - Antarma

DOWNLOAD OR STREAM ABOVE

“Music, once admitted to the soul, becomes a sort of spirit, and never dies.”
― Edward Bulwer-Lyttonq

Welcome to the coldest episode we have ever done on the Ascend Podcast, but luckily the knowledge we did kept us warm. Literally it was one cold November afternoon, and as we battle'd the sun for its light heading down on the N.E.C in Birmingham, we record one of the most powerful episodes we have ever done.

Just being in the presence of Antarma, made us feel lucky to being doing this show. What a incredible human being who transcend's this  beautiful aroma of positive energy, any story which he share's with you, your captivated by. From his story when he first went to a football game, to when he was living on the streets, he is one interesting and beautifully grounded human being who is ready to share the best story of all, the one of Love.

We met Antarma on the stage in the mind body festival, he was using his African Drum (Sorry cant remember the name brother) instrument of African descent, and the meaning of the drum means bringing people together. And the music certainly did that, there was crowds of people igniting with this powerful energy that  flowed through all of us.

What a powerful and enriching experience, so maybe now it's just time to listen about how the music and soul transforms us all, and just chill for a minute and relax. Listen to the power, coolness and rawness of Ascend Live with Antarma Buckland.

"Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don't bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!"  Bob Marley

This week on the Ascend podcast we bring to you for the second time, our new feature on the podcast called observing our thoughts. This new feature to the podcast is really going to give you a lot of interesting insight and value. We always have new thoughts, questions, new concepts, new tools, new ideas, new philosophy's we are playing with, or toying with in our mind's so we are now going to share them all with you.

We easily get lost in our thoughts, our thoughts bring with them the emotional connection of anything that we envision, our minds therefore acts upon them in accordance  of them being real. That is why our thoughts are so powerful, they construct our reality. Only of we let them though, we need to understand that our thoughts are not our reality and as this amazing quote reminds me, if you realized how powerful thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought again in your life.

So once again lets dive deep back into the minds of Dan and Chris and explore the beautiful untamed thoughts that lie within.

AP 99 - Magic & Human Perception - Tom Verner

DOWNLOAD OR STREAM ABOVE

“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.”
Roald Dahl

Magic, many people can view magic as a simple trick to elevate kids entertainment at a birthday party, but the real power of magic is the wonder, and the more deeper we look we see that life itself is one incredible trick, it starts and ends with you being engaged all the way through the journey and ends with the amazement of being so duped into thinking something else.

Magic itself will never lose its wonder because it plays on the simple traits of the mind, and these are of two things, the mind itself can be one of amazing vast brilliance of intelligence, but can also be very easily manipulated by the simple foundations and limitations which we currently have.

I love magic, I love the power of the mind, so what better way to talk about both is to discuss is both is magician and psychologist Tom Verner, we are so lucky, with what we have, we tend to forget what we forget and one of those things we happen to of lost is the power of awe and amazement, thanks Tom for bringing that back.

Since 2002, Magicians Without Borders has traveled to over thirty countries using magic to entertain, educate and empower. By UN estimates we have entertained over 500,000 of the most forgotten people in the world –mostly refugees and orphans living in desperate, difficult and often war torn parts of the world. Detailed accounts of this work can be found on our Our Travels page. We are also educating children in Santa Ana, El Salvador, Mumbai, India and Bogata, Colombia to become magicians. As they study magic, they develop self-confidence, self-esteem, discipline, focus and a sense of personal power. We have also established a Scholarship fund to empower these children to finish High School and go on to college, nursing school, and culinary school.

We rather forget that reaching out towards the limits of our human imagination we forget about what we have already found out which in itself is amazing.

Well we once again ask some of the deeper most powerful questions about the universe in the hope of finding out more about this incredible universe and beyond it, with the incredible Alan Lightman.

Observing Our Thoughts - Dan Harrison & Chris Hopper

DOWNLOAD OR STREAM ABOVE

This week on the Ascend podcast we bring to you our new feature on the podcast called observing our thoughts. This new feature to the podcast is really going to give you a lot of interesting insight and value. We always have new thoughts, questions, new concepts, new tools, new ideas, new philosophy's we are playing with, or toying with in our mind's so we are now going to share them all with you.

In my experience, one of the keys to personal development and ultimately self-understanding is observing your own thoughts, observing what your heart feels and what your body experiences.  tapping into and developing this self-observing system is essential for mental and spiritual growth. Just as physical exercise is important to our well-being, regular self-observation practice is beneficial to our mental well-being. It is through anliziling our own thoughts that we become aware of our patterns and preoccupations.  By becoming more aware of our habitual modes of thinking, feeling and behaving we are better able to direct our attention and make empowering, conscious choices. Monitoring our thought-life enhances our experience of reality. When we practice self-observation we are becoming more aware of the “thinker” behind the thought.

AP 97 - What Happens In The Afterlife - Mark Mirabello

DOWNLOAD OR STREAM ABOVE

“I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But as much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking.”
Carl Sagan

We all have question of the afterlife which we explore at some point in our lives, we often question our legacy. Maybe that's an egotistical approach expecting that the ego is often going to be forever submerged in the belly of history.

But maybe the idea of living forever is somewhat misleading, even though it has being the centre for our history. Alexander the great, Napoleon. The movie Troy was one of the first films that made me analyse legacy, with Achilles himself constantly looking at his Legacy, he is binded by it, so much that he even sacrifices his choice of a happy, peaceful life, to a one of certain doom against the Trojans, the prediction by his visionary mother.

Achilles himself constantly proceeded on his vision of living forever, with quests of immortality, knowing that his actions, his bravery , his understanding of how actions will remain throughout the longing of time. Understanding of how the gods envy our mortal frame, is what makes us unique. A powerful insight on the importance of being human and living in the moment, because ultimately death will happen to us all, and everything what we have gained in this life will be surrendered, family, friends, memorys, loved ones, all eventually leave us, maybe never to be repeated again.. but even though before the inevitable, just look at what you have and appreciate it because ultimately death is the factor that makes life beautiful, makes us understand the process of life..

Achilles was at understanding of how important it was to cement your name in the sands of time, but was he at an understanding that death itself is the creation of life, his name now is spoken with bravery, he will live on through the history books for the rest of time. That is not the path for us all, for many of us the harsh reality is that after, our children's, children have came and past even our name will be forgotten in time, and ultimately when we can even surrender our names to history, can we truly appreciate life..

Episode Breakdown

  • the history of death
  • death is only the beginning
  • how death created an understanding of life
  • what makes us appreciate life
  • death comforts the mind
  • the theories of the afterlife
  • cultural understanding of death
  • what happens when we die?
  • is it important death?
