“I would love to believe that when I die I will live again, that some thinking, feeling, remembering part of me will continue. But as much as I want to believe that, and despite the ancient and worldwide cultural traditions that assert an afterlife, I know of nothing to suggest that it is more than wishful thinking.”
― Carl Sagan
We all have question of the afterlife which we explore at some point in our lives, we often question our legacy. Maybe that's an egotistical approach expecting that the ego is often going to be forever submerged in the belly of history.
But maybe the idea of living forever is somewhat misleading, even though it has being the centre for our history. Alexander the great, Napoleon. The movie Troy was one of the first films that made me analyse legacy, with Achilles himself constantly looking at his Legacy, he is binded by it, so much that he even sacrifices his choice of a happy, peaceful life, to a one of certain doom against the Trojans, the prediction by his visionary mother.
Achilles himself constantly proceeded on his vision of living forever, with quests of immortality, knowing that his actions, his bravery , his understanding of how actions will remain throughout the longing of time. Understanding of how the gods envy our mortal frame, is what makes us unique. A powerful insight on the importance of being human and living in the moment, because ultimately death will happen to us all, and everything what we have gained in this life will be surrendered, family, friends, memorys, loved ones, all eventually leave us, maybe never to be repeated again.. but even though before the inevitable, just look at what you have and appreciate it because ultimately death is the factor that makes life beautiful, makes us understand the process of life..
Achilles was at understanding of how important it was to cement your name in the sands of time, but was he at an understanding that death itself is the creation of life, his name now is spoken with bravery, he will live on through the history books for the rest of time. That is not the path for us all, for many of us the harsh reality is that after, our children's, children have came and past even our name will be forgotten in time, and ultimately when we can even surrender our names to history, can we truly appreciate life..
